Can a revolution have a woman’s face?

The performance is inspired by Andrea Camilleri’s novel La rivoluzione della luna, based on true historical events. It tells the story of Donna Eleonora, a revolutionary and pioneering figure — one of the first women in European history who, in just twenty-eight days — the length of a lunar cycle — challenged the established order.

As the Governor of Palermo, she dismantled from within the tightly bound system of secular and ecclesiastical power by sentencing corrupt members of the Holy Royal Council — including the Bishop of Palermo, a murderer and pedophile — to life imprisonment.

Moreover, she restored agency to women of all social classes, and dignity to victims and wronged children.

The dancers embody Eleonora and the Bishop — her antagonist. Their movement is built on opposition, yet their characters exist in a grotesque symbiosis. The baroque costumes allow the performers to play with convention, while the live music becomes a co-creator of this world — where past and present engage in dialogue, evoking profound ethical and emotional layers.
