OPEN CALL – Research Residency at KCC

This spring we launched an open call for a research residency at the Krakow Choreographic Centre – Nowa Huta Cultural Centre.

We understand a research residency as a space for process, experimentation, and the development of movement practice – without the pressure of creating a finished product.

Applications were open to artists wishing to develop their choreographic or movement practices, deepen previously started creative processes, or begin a new project. The residency did not require the production of a stage work; however, during the residency period, at least one “work in progress” sharing was expected, in a format agreed between the residents and the organizer.

The total funding available was 20,000 PLN, with the following structure:

  • Residency for 1 person: 6,000 PLN
  • Residency for 2 people: 12,000 PLN
  • Residency for 3 or more people: 20,000 PLN

Residency period: minimum of 10 days between January – February 2026, with the exact schedule to be arranged with the Organizer.

After many hours of reading, discussions, and careful consideration, we have made our decision:
This year’s research residency support will go to:

  • Magdalena Górnikiewicz
  • Mikołaj Karczewski, Rałał Matusiak, Konrad Kurowski

The selection process was extremely challenging and only confirmed our belief that such initiatives are truly needed. That is why we have decided to increase the funding pool for residencies next year.

We would like to thank all applicants for provoking us to ask ourselves many questions – intellectual, artistic, systemic, as well as individual and collective. Thank you for your trust, for sharing the issues that matter to you, that you wish to explore further, and for the time you dedicated to preparing your applications.

We keep our fingers crossed that such forms of support – focused not on product, but on process and experimentation – will become available not only with us, but also more broadly, in other institutions.
