iCoDaCo (International Contemporary Dance Collective) was a two-year project in which an international collective of artists and producers co-created and presented a contemporary dance performance, developed new working methods, and built lasting relationships between creators and audiences in both urban and rural communities through direct interaction and discussion.
Alongside the Krakow Choreographic Centre – Nowa Huta Cultural Centre, the project was implemented by four organizations operating in the contemporary dance sector: ilDance (Sweden), Gwyn Emberton Dance (Wales), Jacqueline Sintung Wong (Hong Kong), and SÍN Arts and Culture Centre (Hungary). As part of the project, six artists from the partner countries—Lee Brummer, Mui Cheuk-Yin, Eddie Ladd, Joseph Lee, Weronika Pelczyńska, and Imre Vass—took part in artistic residencies that included work on the performance, workshops, open rehearsals, and meetings with local communities. The openness of the creative process stemmed from the project’s democratic model of collaboration, based on consensus, trust, and transparency, applied both to artistic work and production management.
Reports by artists and producers from the various activities were published on a blog, while reflections by external observers (critics, dance theorists, and curators) were collected in a book.
The premiere of the performance it will come later, created as part of the project, took place at BalletOFFFestival 2018. The production was presented in all countries represented by the partners and was also hosted for two weeks at the international Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performance was shown again in Kraków during the SPACER Contemporary Dance Festival 2019.
