A dance theatre show inspired by Ray Bradbury’s novel “Fahrenheit 451”. In our digital reality stuffed with electronics, where the internet, instead of books, has become a window on the world, it is hard to deny that the vision presented in that book is of current relevance. It is easier today to establish some kind of contact with a screen than with another human being and it is getting harder for us to deal with our emotions. We allow ourselves to be manipulated by the media and lose our system of values.
The power of literature and art is immense. They can exert a great influence over society. The hero of Bradbury’s novel discovers that when people are deprived of literature they lose their souls. We want to fight for it in defence of art as a means of self-expression and as a medium for voicing our critical views about the reality which surrounds us. Dance becomes here a form of struggle and of ecstatic and direct externalization of emotions through the body – a medium through which we experience the world and communicate with it.
The body, just like paper, can be set feverishly aflame in times of crisis.
