The Krakow Choreographic Centre (KCC) is a place that enables engagement with dance and choreography across creative, educational, research, and audience-focused fields. KCC has been operating since 2014 and from the very beginning has been part of the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre. Currently, the Krakow Choreographic Centre is collectively programmed and managed by the entire KCC team: Aleksandra Honza, Agnieszka Barańska-Kozik, Karolina Graca, Monika Szpunar, Monika Węgrzynowicz, and Dominika Wiak.
The core activities of KCC include:
- organizing the Krakow Dance Festival (held annually during the summer)
- organization of research and artistic residencies
- producing performances and performative works
- presenting noteworthy choreographic phenomena and related research (presentations of works and work-in-progress showings, Dance in Process, Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference, online lectures)
- initiating and partnering in Polish and international projects (IcoDaCo, The Voice of Seniors, GPS, EDN)
- running ongoing educational activities: for people of different ages and levels of experience
- supporting local creative initiatives and dance artists (Body Laboratory, Mothers in Motion, Open Studio KCC)
- building community and enabling shared experiences (post-show talks with artists, dance jams, talks and introductions)
The goals of the Krakow Choreographic Centre focus on promoting choreography in its many forms, strengthening its image as an autonomous part of culture, and supporting dance artists from Poland and abroad. KCC observes current trends in dance and choreography, and its primary driving force is the creation of a space for inspiration and exchange.
The Krakow Choreographic Centre continuously explores its identity, evaluates its activities, and strives to be an attentive observer of changes taking place within the dance community and the surrounding reality. It provides space for the realization of new ideas, initiates its own projects, and encourages action. It is not afraid of experimentation. It aims to build community and connections within the fields of movement, dance, and choreography.
Between 2014 and 2019, the Krakow Choreographic Centre organized the following events: the SPACER Contemporary Dance Festival, BalletOFFFestival, and the choreographic competition 3…2…1…DANCE!. In 2021, these events were merged into an international festival under the name Krakow Dance Festival.
