mayfield brooks’ residency is behind us! Wrapping up the GPS Movement Research project.
The residency of mayfield brooks in Krakow, which we co-organized as a partner of the American organization Movement Research, recently came to an end. We are thrilled to be fostering international relationships and look forward to more such collaborations in the future.
During their stay in Poland (October 18–31, 2024), mayfield brooks led an open class and a two-day intensive movement laboratory. Additionally, open improvisation practices were held, welcoming all interested participants. These gatherings took place in various spaces around Nowa Huta, including Łąki Nowohuckie and the area near Zalew Nowohucki. Mayfield’s presence also benefited our regular educational groups.
Throughout this time, mayfield was accompanied by performer Camilo Camar and video artist Chagua Camacho-Olguín.
The second part of the project was an artistic residency in Gdańsk, culminating in a beautiful performance on the beach at Sobieszewo Island. The piece, titled “The Choreography of Whales: An Interspecies Love Story,” was part of mayfield’s ongoing project “Whale Fall.”
Following the performance, there was a public discussion attended by audience members, including third-year students from the Management of Artistic Institutions program at the University of Gdańsk.
We extend our gratitude to the Polka Dot Foundation and the Wyspa Progress Foundation for their support in organizing this part of the project.
This project was supported by the GPS/Global Practice Sharing Program of Movement Research, with funding from the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
