On 11 April 2025, the 2nd edition of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference took place at the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre. This year, the conference was held under the theme Immersions. Questions of Fluidity in Choreography and Dance. The conference served as a prelude to the 5th Krakow Dance Festival, which took place from 3 to 9 August 2025.
During the conference, we explored the idea of immersions—of dancers, spectators, writers, choreographers, and organizers alike. Immersion in change, in the fluid transitions between authenticity and creation, in the sensory following of ideas, affects, and imaginings proposed by the moving bodies of artists.
We examined fluidity both metaphorically and literally, as well as issues related to immersion, such as visibility and grounding. Fluidity emerged as a kind of continuum of movement, but also as a blurring of boundaries and an interpenetration of topics, people, problems, and ideas. We delved into a dialogue on immersion as exhaustion, softness, closeness, attentiveness, deepening, and enlivening. This dialogue created conditions for potential encounters, in which one configuration (including choreographic) gives rise to others, fostering an exchange of thoughts, feelings, and fantasies. An environmental dimension also emerged, particularly in the context of hydrofeminism, which connects reflection on water with a feminist perspective on care and responsibility.
Fluidity also found its place in collective ways of working, which in turn opened up contexts proposing alternatives to hierarchical management of cultural institutions, creating spaces for fluid exchange of opinions and supportive discussions.
