2024 was a year of celebration, and we can already say with confidence that 2025 has been about building alliances and collaborations.<\/strong>We see that this is exactly what the world needs right now. Instead of \u201cplaying for our own goal\u201d and competing with one another, it\u2019s worth noticing how much we have in common \u2014 together, we\u2019re capable of achieving so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this mindset, we actively took part this year in conversations within Krak\u00f3w\u2019s contemporary dance community. One of the outcomes was the creation of the Krak\u00f3w Alliance for Dance (Krakowskie Porozumienie dla Ta\u0144ca).<\/strong> Still within the same year, as part of the Alliance\u2019s ongoing talks with city authorities, we managed to reshape the City of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s scholarship program \u2014 from next year on, it will support not only the production of works, but also artistic processes. In addition, an open call for proposals was launched for the Independent Contemporary Dance Scene (Niezale\u017cna scena ta\u0144ca wsp\u00f3\u0142czesnego)<\/strong><\/em> program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most recently, we were also thrilled to share the news that Krak\u00f3w will be one of the operators of Przestrzenie Sztuki<\/em> in the coming years. For us, this is another very real step toward strengthening the position of dance in Poland \u2014 a step developed together with the Krak\u00f3w Alliance for Dance and Teatr KTO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to international collaborations, we were even more excited to hear that KCC has become a member of the European Dance Development Network<\/a>, currently the only institution in Poland to do so.<\/strong> We can\u2019t wait to dive into the activities and opportunities that being part of this network opens up for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were also absolutely delighted to receive funding from the GPS \/ Global Practice Sharing<\/a><\/strong>, run by Movement Research in New York with the support of the Trust for Mutual Understanding. We don\u2019t want to give away too much just yet, but we\u2019re already counting the days until we can tell you who we\u2019ll be welcoming to Krak\u00f3w next year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout all of this, we were also strengthening our internal alliance \u2014 the collective itself.<\/strong> For many people, it still comes as something new, even unusual, when we say that we work collectively, especially within a public institution. And yet \u2014 it\u2019s still happening, and it\u2019s working well for us. We keep testing things out, negotiating, learning, and sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So how do we nurture this? One way is by allowing ourselves small workations, during which we spent time, among other things, thinking together about the vision of the place we\u2019re creating. If someone asked us for a recipe for collectivity, shared trips \u2014 and more broadly, giving ourselves space for conversation and collective dreaming \u2014 would definitely be one of its key ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most important moments this year was also the 5th edition of the Krak\u00f3w Dance Festival<\/a><\/strong>, held under the theme IMMERSIONS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organizers and curators (Agnieszka Bara\u0144ska-Kozik, Karolina Graca, Aleksandra Honza, Monika Szpunar, Monika W\u0119grzynowicz, Dominika Wiak) took care this year not only to ensure formal diversity in the performances \u2014 especially in terms of different approaches to what dance and choreography can be \u2014 but also to reach a varied audience (including across age groups). The paths available to audiences were therefore diverse, sometimes blurred, and for some participants, charting those paths may have happened for the very first time. This applied both to regular attendees \u2014 whom I\u2019d immodestly count myself among \u2014 and to new viewers. The fact that the festival is in constant motion and keeps changing \u2014 something the organizers signal directly through this year\u2019s theme (\u201cImmersions\u201d) \u2014 like water, seems quite obvious. What follows from that?<\/em>

This year, the festival was preceded by the 2nd Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference <\/strong>Immersions. Questions of Fluidity in Choreography and Dance<\/a><\/strong><\/em> which we hope will become a regular event organized by KCC. This year\u2019s Call for Papers<\/strong> was met with great interest, confirming once again that there is a strong need not only to create dance, but also to talk about it and its many forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We promised an e-book bringing together the post-conference texts<\/strong>, and the work is already underway! It\u2019s our first time creating a publication like this, so we\u2019re learning everything from scratch \u2014 but we\u2019re already on the home stretch. We\u2019re hoping to welcome the beginning of next year with the premiere of our very first publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another equally important moment this year was opening the doors to our studio. Open Studio KCC<\/a><\/strong> is a project created in response to voices from the community about the lack of accessible working spaces for artists. Wanting to meet these needs, we opened up our space for use on Mondays. The initiative was met with huge interest \u2014 reflected in the number of thank-you comments under our Facebook post, private messages we received, and the fact that all Mondays get booked up incredibly fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope that in the future more spaces in Krak\u00f3w \u2014 and perhaps beyond \u2014 will join initiatives like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the initiatives mentioned above, the year was filled with many smaller and larger projects that were just as important.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We continued the Rozta\u0144czone Rodziny (Dancing Families)<\/a><\/strong> workshop series \u2014 with both spring and autumn editions \u2014 and we already have more sessions planned. The workshops enjoy great interest, and we\u2019re happy to be able to offer families with children such a wonderful shared experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to support from KPO<\/strong>, <\/strong>the Matki w ruchu (Mothers in Motion)<\/strong> project also continued to grow. As part of it, our space hosted open workshops for mothers \u2014 a bit of movement, a bit of conversation, all in an open and safe atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although we still can\u2019t maintain a \u201cpermanent repertoire,\u201d this year we managed to present several exceptional performances:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
